Bill Beaumont has been unanimously voted in as the new chairman of World Rugby and will succeed to Bernard Lapasset. He has been Member of World Rugby executive council for 1999 and World Rugby Vice-President from 2007 to 2012.

Besides him will be seated Agustin Pichot as the new World Rugby Vice-Chairman. The former Pumas 71-capped player, took all the votes and will be the first Argentinian at this position.

Octavian Morariu, IOC member and Rugby Europe President declared:

“I wish to congratulate Bill and Agustin for their election. Thanks to their experience in World Rugby and in their own federations, they succeeded in moving ahead our sport and preserve our fundamental values. We are particularly proud that the new Word Rugby President is a representative of one of our member union.

All the work done during Bernard Lapasset presidency helped develop the game all around the world and get the access to the Olympics. After a wonderful 2015 World Cup, rugby will face a crucial period for the growth of our sport in the world and especially in Europe, with the Olympic Games and the next World Cup in Japan.

As expressed to Bill Beaumont, when he attended to our last Rugby Europe Executive Committee, I personally and the forty-eight Rugby Europe unions will support him in front of challenges to come. We will participate in implementing World Rugby programme, in order to continue the work initiated these last years.”
