Budapest, Heroes square – 5th May 2016The Hungarian University Sports Federation (HUSF) organised a giant kick off event for its ’Move it!’ campaing on Heroes square, Budapest on 5th May. Get into Rugby was also a part of the university sports event as a result of the collaboration of the Hungarian Rugby Union and HUSF.

The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Ádám Kiss president of HUSF. He highlighted the importance of regular sport activities and its affect on our life. The event was attended by Ms Alexandra Szalay-Bobrovniczky deputy mayor of Budapest and main patron of the event. She said that Budapest fully supports this campaign which promotes healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity.

The aim of the ‘Move it’ campaign is to raise awareness of  the importance of regular physical activity amongst university students in various sports. Beside basketball which was the main sport of the day, other sports, including rugby was also promoted by rugby player university students from Budapest and Gödöllő during the day. Hundreds of university students from other sports, tourists and spectators saw the Get into Rugby promotion show and lots of them joined the GIR activities afterwards.

During the afternoon primary school children attended the event and they also tried modified touch rugby games with the help of the university students who were delighted to share their knowledge of rugby and performed their coaching skills.

The couriosity of the event was an amazing challenge! As a part of the ‘Move it’ campaing university students had an opportunity to challenge 3 olympic athletes (László Cseh swimmer, Bernadett Heidum short track speed skater and Abigél Joó judo) in a sport choosen by themselves. Unfortunately the olympic athletes didn’t try rugby but were happy to take a picture with our rugby players!
